You want to get your whole family outdoors to have fun together. But, your dreams of a perfect hike or outdoor adventure can be dashed when kids are involved - unless you prepare (think snacks, wipes, rain coats).
Here are a few tips of what to pack and where to go to ensure a fun outdoor family trek in Breck.
What to Bring
Make sure you pack water, layers including a rain jacket, snacks, sunscreen and most importantly, bring lots and lots of patience. Don't have an expectation of how far you'll go or how much fun you'll have. Try to go with the flow. Check the weather before you leave and during your trek. If it looks like rain or bad weather, reconsider your plans or reschedule. Luckily for all those parents out there Breckenridge has a plethora of trails the whole family can enjoy. These trails aren’t too hard but still boast tremendous views of the Rockies!
Cucumber Gulch is a designated wildlife preserve that has 77 acres of wetlands, and provides vital habitat for the state-endangered boreal toad, moose, elk, deer, mountain lion, beaver, and over forty-seven species of birds. It’s very easy to access, and can even be accessed with a stroller.
This is a trail even the youngest member of the family can enjoy. It features a small hike down to a stream where you can fish. It’s only about a mile and a half long and is located near the Snowflake lift near Four O’clock Road.
There may be no donkeys on the trail, but your family is still bound to have a great time on this easy, moderately trafficked trail located just steps away from Beaver Run (across the dirt road on the backside of the resort near the Beaver Run SuperChair). It starts just beyond the chairlift, but takes you deep into the pine forest and meadows.
This is a really easy, fun loop trail that brings you to a magical, mystical 15-foot troll sculpture sculpted out of wood by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. The Town of Breckenridge has relocated "Isak Heartstone" to his current location deep in the woods on the Trollstigen Trail, near the Stephen C. West Ice Rink. It's perfect for kids of all ages and even grandparents.
