Hiking in Breckenridge

Hiking

While breckenridge is mainly known for its skiing in the winter, a lot can be said about the beauty and draw it has in the summer! One of the most popular ways to experience this beauty is to enjoy the thousands of miles of trails we have so close by!

Hikes That Start Within 5 Miles of the Resort

at Beaver Run we are lucky enough be directly on the mountain, while still remaining cantrally located and close to town. This means that we are close to some very popular hikes.

Burro Trail

Hike the Burro Trail as an out-and-back route for as long (or as short) as you want. Just five or 10 minutes out can make you feel like you’re miles out in the back country. Like many other trails close by, the Burro trail provides access to a vast network of backcountry hiking options giving people the opportunity to go as far as they want. Everything is very well marked and the starting point is located right here at the base of peak 9!

Illinois Creek Trail

Another popular hike starts very close by at the west end of the Stephen A. Smith Ice Arena. This hike features a 15-foot tall wooden sculpture named Isak. Isak is Breckenridge's most popular outdoor art exhibit so if you're trying to have one-on-one time with him, we encourage you to visit first thing in the morning (before 10:00am) or early evening (after 5:00pm).

Sawmill Trail

the sawmill trail starts less than two miles from the resort at the intersection of Kings CRown Rd and Four O'Clock Rd. The trail is a 1.3 mile loop that highlights sawmill reservoir, a beautiful lake nestled right next to the mountain.

Know Before You Go

Summer hiking in the mountains sure is hard to beat. But it is important to rememeber that the high alpine can be a volatile unforgiving place and it is important to know exactly where you are going and never wonder, always bring enough water, and most important, have fun!  Beautiful hiking trails can be found throughout Summit County so come up and get exploring!
